Tabs Tab A tab is very important to protect your fingers. Hands come in all sizes and so do tabs. The tab should cover your fingertips at full draw. The required thickness of protection is very much a comfort thing. The string should never hurt your fingers. If it does then add another layer of protection; or if you find the tips of your fingers are stinging on release then you need longer cover or a larger size. Most tab faces are leather, but there are also other popular synthetic backings. There are many copies of the more expensive tabs on the market so do shop around for good prices.

The paradox is that although the arrow is pointing away from the target it will fly in a straight line to the point of aim. Some archers use the middle finger and thumb, but this creates a longer string between the fingers and means the bow hand can turn inwards on shooting, thus inducing torque. A shoelace makes the best finger sling.
